As many of you know, Darryl Wilson, Sunday School & Discipleship Consultant for the Kentucky Baptist Convention, will be leading a Sunday School workshop called “MULTIPLY” right here in our association on May 20 from 6:30PM-9:00PM at Grace Baptist Church.
Let me encourage you to take advantage of this FREE workshop that I truly believe will help to strengthen your church’s Sunday School ministry. You can pre-register by calling the office at 432-2660 and let us know that you are coming and how many that you are bringing with you. In order to help Darryl plan how many books to bring to the workshop, please pre-register by Friday, May 16. Walk-ins on the day of the event will certainly be welcome, but extra books and refreshments may be limited.
Studies show that of those who attend worship services but who don’t get connected in a Sunday School class, less than 20% will be active in the church 5 years from now. However, those same studies reveal that of those who attend worship and Sunday School, over 80% will be active in the church 5 years from now. That’s just one of many reasons why Sunday School is such an important part of your church’s mission and ministry. But, don’t just take my word for it. Here are some responses to an informal survey of other benefits of connecting to a Sunday School class:
“I realized my growth as a Christian and the fellowship that we share together whether it be the daily trials we share or the joys we share (was a benefit of Sunday School). It also cleared up any misconceptions/questions that I had. I cannot imagine now not going to Sunday School. We have a tremendous amount of love and great fellowship together.”
“I love the fellowship and the love from my Sunday School class. I like the different perspectives and ideas we all have. I love that when we get together and pray, we are true prayer warriors. We all love the Lord and we love to study His Word!”
“Community, support, and a challenging word!”
As you can see, Sunday School can be a very effective way to get people connected to your church. However, churches often run into problems finding enough Sunday School leaders and providing adequate training for them. If this has ever been an issue in your church, again let me encourage you and your Sunday School leaders to take advantage of this workshop. Darryl will discuss the benefits of Sunday School, how to identify and train new leaders, as well as why and how to start new adult classes (which on average increase a church’s Sunday School attendance by 10).
If you have any questions, please feel free to call the associational office. I hope to see you on May 20!
